First YMCA in Japan, Tokyo YMCA founded. |

Osaka YMCA founded. |
|
1890 |
YMCA language education started with Tokyo YMCA's English night school. |
|
1903 |
Alliance of Student YMCAs (est. 1987) and Alliance of City YMCAs (est. 1901) combined to form National Council of YMCAs of Japan. |

1907 |
First international conference held in Asia, the 7th Conference of the World Student Christian Federation in Tokyo |

1917 |
Japan's first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool build at Tokyo YMCA |

1920 |
First organized educational camping in Japan led by Osaka YMCA at Mt. Rokko |

1928 |
First Y's Men's Club was established in Osaka. |

1947 |
"Postwar Reconstruction Three-Year Plans" established or restructured many student and city YMCAs. Start of high school YMCA movement. |

1949 |
First international work camp in Japan. |

1953 |
Japan YMCA Institute established. First camp for disabled children organized by Kobe YMCA. |

1961 |
Japan-Korea YMCA student exchanges formally started. |

1962 |
Arthur H. Steinhaus introduced fitness to Japan. Camping for children who dislike physical education developed. Physical education classrooms opened in each YMCA. |

1980 |
Tokyo 100th Anniversary of the YMCA in Japan. Relations re-opened with China YMCA. |

1991 |
Gulf War Relief and Rehabilitation Project started, as well as Vocational Training School with Jordan YMCA. |

1995 |
Led by Kobe YMCA, urgent relief and reconstruction efforts taken after Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake hit. |

100th Anniversary of National Council of YMCAs of Japan. |
