YMCA Youth Leadership Programs

Student YMCAs
With a membership of 280 students in 36 university groups throughout Japan, the Student Ys promote the development of leadership, social awareness, and self-knowledge through study camps, exchange programs, Bible-study circles, and joint projects with other groups.
Focussing on current issues such as religion and cultural/sexual identity, Student Y activities continue to attract growing numbers and to provide a stimulating forum for exchange and fellowship.
International Programs
Through a diverse range of programs, the YMCAs of Japan continue their commitment to youth and international understanding. At the Japan-Korea History Seminar, for example, five youth delegates from Japan worked with their Korean counterparts to overcome the animosity and misunderstanding between the two countries caused by past tragedies. One result of continued Japan-Korea YMCA ties is the gradual emergence of a common understanding of the two countries' shared history, which forms the basis for a YMCA history textbook that will soon be issued for staff and volunteer training.
