In about 120 nations and areas in the world, 30 million active members provide and receive YMCA services.
More than 10,000 local YMCAs make up a "World Alliance" headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The YMCA of Japan, represented by the National Council of YMCAs of Japan, is a full-member of the World Alliance.
YMCA of Japan, with the worldwide network of YMCA, promote International Programs in the following areas:
1. Youth Exchange Programs
YMCAs throughout Japan operate study tours, work camps, homestays, intensive language programs abroad. Target countries are mainly Asian and North American but some unique programs conducted in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and other parts of world. Many YMCAs abroad as well as other global organizations reciprocate by sending youths to our YMCAs in Japan.
2. Project Support
YMCAs of Japan support projects which:
(1) Promote people's empowerment and sustainable development
(2) Assist refugees and migrant workers
(3) Develop youth leadership
(4) Provide relief and rehabilitation for the victims of natural disaster
Examples of on-going projects are:
-Literacy projects for children in Bangladesh and Thailand
-Vocational training in Vietnam
-Mobile medical clinic in rural villages of Myanmar (Burma)
-Peace and reconciliation project in Sri Lanka

3. Domestic Educational Programs
YMCAs of Japan organize community level symposiums and courses to broaden awareness of different cultures and to help deepen understanding of international issues.
4. Support for foreign residents and students in Japan
-Assistance for migrant workers and their families
-Japanese language courses
-Sending Japanese language teachers overseas
