Language Education
English
The YMCA has more than 110 years of experience in English education, beginning with the first English courses offered at Tokyo YMCA [1890]. For many years, the YMCA has uniquely emphasized "English Alive!" to promote important speaking and listening skills often neglected in favor of the reading and writing traditionally taught in schools. English Alive! reflects the YMCA's perspective that English is a tool for international communication.
YMCA English teachers have vast teaching experience, as well as being full of volunteer spirit and eagerly involve themselves in social activities. Teachers work not only to improve English skills but also to improve students' communication abilities.
The YMCA provides a range of group and private language courses for all ages from pre-kinder to adults, as well as different levels from beginners to advanced. Courses include general conversation courses, business English courses, and preparatory courses for tests such as TOEIC, TOEFL and STEP. Some YMCAs also provide students with opportunities to study abroad.
