Community Development & Volunteerism
Today, we face many social and global challenges, such as the breakdown of families and communities, an aging population, poverty, over development, environmental degradation, human rights abuse, and ethnic conflict.
The YMCA is for people who want to contribute to society and who believe that they can make a difference in their community and the global situation of mankind.
The YMCA is a volunteer network enables people to be the providers of services as well as the recipients. Local volunteers provide the power to continually ensure that YMCAs are meeting the unique needs of their communities.
YMCA volunteers are actively involved in a wide variety of community development programs:
-Support for the mentally or physically challenged
-Support for those with learning disabilities
-Management of free schools / free spaces for those who have withdrawn from school
-Support for senior citizens
-International cooperation and fundraising
-Teaching Japanese to foreign residents
-Relief and rehabilitation for victims of natural disasters in Japan and overseas
-Youth leaders & Camp Counselors
